Intimate, vibrant, unique yet classic with a touch of wild… by Andrew Smock

Through the creative process, we are always looking to distill our couple’s vision for their wedding day into something tangible.  Many times that process starts with an inspiration photo, a color palette, a texture or a theme.  Sometimes it is fun to shift the focus from the visual and begin with a quote, a sentiment or even descriptors.  The most wonderful part of our planning and design process is getting to know our couples and discovering the best way to communicate with them while translating their ideas into an amazing event.

For Kara and Sean’s wedding, we used key descriptors as a piece of our inspiration.  The best part?  We knew we had nailed the design when we realized that the words we chose did not simply describe the look and tone of the event…  Those descriptors captured the personality of our fantastic couple perfectly!

Intimate, vibrant, unique yet classic with a touch of wild…

Elegance and Succulents by Andrew Smock

Chapter One: Elegance and Succulents

The Bride and Groom always set the tone for their Wedding Day, and this lovely couple was no exception.  They are gracious, elegant, stunning and have an intimate connection that is the stuff of which dreams are built upon.  Their special day, hosted at the exclusive KD Beach Club (Kapulehu Beach Club), was the perfect blend of these qualities.  It was our extreme pleasure to be a part of this event captured by Fletch Photography.

We are fortunate to have the opportunity to share with you a bit about this Bride and Groom.  We thank them for sharing such an authentic description of their relationship together.  In their own words:

From the Bride:
“We met at a French wine bar called Amelie in San Francisco through a mutual friend, and ran a 5k together as our first deliberate ‘meeting’ two days later.  We felt as though we knew each other already from the moment we met, like we had been together in another time, a different life.

Although we met in San Francisco, Phil moved to my home town of Naperville, IL, when I was in high school.  I moved to the Big Island six months after he came to Naperville.  We maybe should have or could have met then.  It was a missed opportunity.  As though, we were circling each other. Phil finally caught up with me in San Francisco 14 years later!

We have a mutual, passionate vulnerability with one another, by which we know the depths of each other’s emotions, history, and most importantly, our love of one another. This is one way we know our love is our lifeline and our destiny.  This is the fearlessness that makes us trusting.”

From the Groom:
“Experiencing this is the only way to understand it.  It cannot be observed from the outside.  Anything I thought I knew prior to Laura has changed through my experience with her, through becoming one with her.  It has made me realize who I am, and who I am meant to be.  It is life changing and it creates beauty in everything.  This is living in love.”

After their vows, before the Bride and Groom recessed, the Officiant (who was also the Bride’s cousin), closed the ceremony with these words from C.S. Lewis:

“But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world had only been the cover and title page: now, at last, they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes on forever, and in which every chapter is better than the one before.”

Kipona Aloha – Deep Love by Andrew Smock

Kipona Aloha – Deep Love

As you might have guessed, we are devoted to all things LOVE.  Our Bride, Lin-Ann, has captured the expressions of love from her wedding day in the passage below.

“The day of the wedding was magical, dream-like and very emotional. I felt like a mini celebrity and also so relaxed. Given that it was such an intimate event it was so amazing to be able to spend time talking, sharing, dancing with each and every one of our guests and our closest family. The ceremony was so moving!  From Keoni’s beautiful words and Hawaiian traditions to the very special presence of my best friend Linda reading a poem I wrote, to my mother’s touching and emotional words when she blessed our wedding rings. Ben was also extremely emotional at the sight of his daughter coming down the aisle as our flower girl–as his mind was set in fast-forward to years later when she would one day come down the aisle as a bride. What a very special day indeed that we were not only united as a couple, but finally felt complete as a family.

The Big Island was a no-brainer for our destination wedding because I love the beach and ocean.  I had always dreamed of a beach or oceanside wedding and Ben was going to be teaching a field study course at Volcano National Park!  It was important to us to incorporate aspects of traditional Hawaiian culture into our special day because it is so aligned with the openness of heart and spirit that is at the center of our relationship. That is why there were Hawaiian phrases incorporated into all aspects of the event, including “E Komo Mai” welcome bags waiting in the hotel rooms for our guests who traveled from so far away, “I ho’okahi kahi ke aloha” on our invitations (Be one in love), “mahalo nui Loa” on our letterpress thank you cards, etc….and of course the phrase and title for our wedding event, “Kipona Aloha” truly captures the deep love that Ben and I have cultivated in our relationship.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Andrew Smock

A Midsummer Night’s Dream = A Dream Come True

The design team at Bliss in Bloom is inspired by the Bard.  A wedding based on Shakespeare’s, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” was something that we had been hoping to do for several seasons.  This lovely NYC bride made our dream come true!  She handed us the theme and gave us free reign in the design department.

Bliss in Bloom created and installed an incredible Manzanita branch chandelier adorned with delicate bud vases, draping vine and hanging votives.  Our moss covered tablescape, complete with the romance of candlelight and an overflowing cornucopia of fruits and flowers, represented the abundance that is ever present in true love and life. The gorgeous setting at Anna Ranch Heritage Center was the perfect backdrop for an event full of rainbows, delicious food and a relaxed family atmosphere.

There were lawn games accompanied by beautiful music, dancing in the rain, food, drink and fairies hidden in the majestic trees on the Ranch.  Even Puck, “that merry wanderer of the night,” would have surely been wooed by this fantastic couple.  We wish them an eternity of love and happiness.

True love by Andrew Smock

True love – a Hawaiian Plantation Wedding

It is a true honor to be involved with a Bride as she creates her Wedding Day.  From the moment she says, ‘Yes’ to the Dress, all the way through the wedding design and planning process, and finally culminating in that amazing moment where she says, ‘I Do,’ to the Man of her dreams.  At Bliss in Bloom, we are fortunate many times, to have a hand in each of the elements that contribute to the details of such lovely moments.

We first met our Bride, Kea, at our little Boutique.  She came in with her, “Best Girls,” and they were fun and supportive as she went through her first fitting.  Judging by their reactions to Kea in the Watters Wtoo, “Olivia,” we knew she had found her Gown.  Kea was a joy and the gown she chose perfectly suited her personality.  She exemplifies true kindness, exquisite loveliness, a welcoming heart and a generous spirit.

It was fitting that she married her true love on Valentine’s Day surrounded by her nearest and dearest from all over, as well as her adoring and supportive family members.  The tone of the day was consistent with the couple’s fun-loving and truly genuine personalities.  It is always such a pleasure for us to be able to witness our Couple’s step into married life togeter, and we feel especially fortunate to have worked with Kea and Francis…words cannot express how much we have fallen in love with this sweet couple!
