Waipio Valley, Hawaii - Cliffside Wedding / by Allison Bennett

As an esteemed Wedding Photographer, Rebecca has extensive experience with all things beautiful at events.  She has a very clear aesthetic and a strong design sense that is demonstrated by her approach to everything in her life...her curated wardrobe, incredible interior design skills in each of her homes and never more evident than in her life behind the lens.  Becca's photos are incredible and everything that her eye catches always includes the perfect artful detail, the perfect intimate moment.  Of all of the planners and florists with whom she works, we were touched that she chose us to translate and execute her vision for her wedding day.

Much of our inspiration came from Becca and Eryck, of course.  Becca and Eryck are both as genuine as they come. As one looks more closely and gets to know them further it becomes apparent that there is much to uncover within each of them as individuals and as a couple.  The powerful landscape that they chose as the backdrop for their wedding was the scenic Waipio Valley.  There is no more quintessential representation of the Big Island of Hawaii than Waipio Valley.  There are layers upon layers to discover in this magical place...the genuinely rich Hawaiian history that resides there even to this day, the wildness of the place...plants...wild horses...wild waterfalls, the imposing, rocky cliffs, the fine black sand beach, the lush greenery...it is all mysterious and deep and powerful...the perfect place to start a life together forever!

We used some key words while working through our design process...bohemian yet classic, wild yet refined and genuine to the core...just like our couple.  Each of the elements were carefully chosen so that they would feature the natural beauty that was surrounding us.

At the Ceremony we didn't want to disrupt the stunning vista and chose natural wild grasses and greenery that as the wind blew added gorgeous movement behind the Couple.  The Bridal Bouquet was free form, wild and a true statement piece.  The event was larger than life...grand...just like our surroundings.  It was a unique decision to bring in a mix of furniture and rugs (much of it from our own living rooms!) for guest seating at the ceremony and the Cocktail Reception.

At the Wedding Reception, we layered the table with rich metal tones, romantic fabrics and beautiful deep color.  The blues are of course a nod to our incredible ocean. The dark and moodier colors in the china, glassware and votives, represent the depth and mystery of the Valley.  We are fortunate on our Island to be surrounded by the abundance of the land.  We were able to incorporate so many gorgeous local fruits into our tablescape - figs as the place card holders, stunning red Mountain Apples from up Mauka, lychee from the property's orchard plus nuts, berries and mangos added unexpected texture and incredible depth and color to our table.  All of the fruits and flowers represented the abundance of love and the fruitful harvest of a life well lived and well loved by one another, surrounded by family and close friends.
